Angioedema and exanthema in an elderly patient: case report A 65-year-old woman, with a history of obesity and glaucoma, began receiving pregabalin [dosage and route not stated], etoricoxib, tramadol and paracetamol [acetaminophen] for chronic pain due to a degenerative joint disease. Two months later, she presented with lip and eyelid angioedema and a diffuse, erythematous, pruritic maculopapular exanthema on her face and trunk which yielded when treatment was discontinued. She later tolerated treatment with dipyrone, ibuprofen, paracetamol, tramadol and diclofenac. An oral etoricoxib challenge was met with good tolerance and pregabalin skin prick testing was negative. However, a single-blind, placebo-controlled (SBPC) oral pregabalin challenge produced a pruritic maculopapular exanthema 30 minutes after a 25mg dose; symptoms resolved in 1 hour with prednisone and dexchlorpheniramine. Author comment: The patient developed an "immediate extensive cutaneous reaction induced by pregabalin confirmed with a SBPC oral challenge". Ortega-Camarero MA, et al.
