Sertraline Priapism: case report A 17-year-old boy developed priapism during treatment with sertraline for severe obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). The boy, who had previously been treated with fluoxetine and pimozide for OCD, but who had experienced excessive sedation, had his medication changed to sertraline 50mg once daily. Three weeks later, he developed a painless and sustained erection that lasted 5 hours and resolved spontaneously. The boy stopped sertraline the following day and rechallenged by himself the next day. Two days after the first episode, he developed another priapism that was moderately painful and lasted 4 hours. Again, his symptoms resolved spontaneously. He stopped sertraline again and presented 1 week later at a clinic. It was decided to rechallenge with sertraline due to its potential therapeutic effects. On follow-up 4 months from the first episode, the boy had experienced no further priapisms. Author comment: "Causality was assessed by the Naranjo ADR Probability Scale . . . We found a score of 8, meaning probable". Bonnot O, et al. Priapism associated with sertraline.
