Acute drug-induced akathisia: case report A 63-year-old man developed acute drug-induced akathisia during treatment with sertraline for depression. The man, who had depression, was hospitalised with anxiety. He had been receiving sertraline [Zoloft] 50mg [route not stated]. After taking his first morning dosage of sertraline, he experienced progressive anxiety and restlessness. Physical examination showed body temperature of 36.2°C, blood pressure 182/112mm Hg, respiratory rate 20 breaths/minutes, restless and anxious. He was diagnosed with acute drug-induced akathisia. Sertraline was discontinued, and the man was treated with diazepam [Valium]. He responded well to the treatment and was discharged. Tucci V, et al.
