Foreword: Challenging Times in Teacher Education

This book is timely. The authors have thoughtfully captured some of the headline issues that need to be addressed in teacher education in these challenging times. Importantly, Schuck, Aubusson, Burden and Brindley establish a forward focussed position that seeks to consider the possibilities, opportunities and tensions associated with what might be, rather than reflecting on the past—or remaining entrenched in the status quo. There is little doubt that teacher education is under stress—or, as they have noted—caught (perhaps even mired) in a state of conflict. The demands on teacher education, the expectations and the superficiality of the shifting political landscape do little to set teacher education on a footing of certainty
