Various toxicities: 4 case reports In a study comprising 24 patients treated for neuropsychiatric symptoms secondary to organic damage to the central nervous system, 4 patients [ages and sexes not stated] were described, who developed dizziness, stomach aches, coordination disorder or Parkinson’s disease symptoms during treatment with valproic acid. The patients, who exhibited neuropsychiatric symptoms following acquired brain injuries, started receiving valproic acid [routes and dosages not stated] as the first choice of drug. All patients underwent assessment of mental state twice, i.e. at the time of enrollment for the study and after 12 months of observation by Cohen-Mansfield Agitation Inventory (CMAI) and Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) scales. However, after 12 months of the observation period, the patients reported side effects, including dizziness (n=1), stomach aches (n=1), coordination disorder (n=1) and Parkinson’s disease symptoms [n=1; durations of treatments to reactions onsets and outcomes not stated].
