Valproic acid Pancreatitis in a child: case report A 3-year-old girl, who was receiving valproic acid syrup 100mg twice daily for epilepsy, presented with abdominal tenderness, vomiting and poor oral intake, which was attributed to appetite loss [duration of treatment before reaction onset not stated]. On admission, laboratory test results suggested acute pancreatitis. A laparotomy confirmed this diagnosis. Valproic acid was discontinued. She was switched to clonazepam syrup.
