Warfarin Lingual haematoma in an elderly patient: case report A 66-year-old man receiving warfarin 5mg [frequency not stated] for a mitral valve disorder presented with lingual oedema of purplish colour, along with pain and swelling [duration of treatment to reaction onset not stated]. He was also receiving digoxin and a diuretic. On examination, a lingual haematoma was observed. Laboratory examination showed an INR of 50.15 and a haemoglobin level of 8.7 g/dL. He received oxygen inhalation therapy, fresh frozen plasma, an erythrocyte suspension and vitamin K. Two days later, the lingual haematoma had disappeared. Author comment: "This is the first isolated lingual haematoma observed on a normal warfarin dose without overdosing, according to our knowledge, to be reported in the literature." Acar F, et al. Lingual haematoma: a rare complication of usual warfarin dose. 801118266 Emergency Medicine Journal 25: 406, No. 7, Jul 2008 - Turkey
