Abstract In order to solve the problem that carbonate rocks are difficult to be explored due to their complex heterogeneity, the evaluation of carbonate reservoirs and the prediction of gas bearing are carried out. Firstly, taking the Sugeri gas field area in Ordos as an example, the address characteristics of the research area are introduced. Then the petrological characteristics and reservoir spatial characteristics (pore types and pore structures) of carbonate reservoirs are explored. In addition, the prediction and simulation method of carbonate reservoir gas bearing—amplitude variation with offset (AVO) forward modeling analysis method is discussed. Finally, the results of reservoir characteristics and prediction of reservoir gas bearing are analyzed. The results show that there is no effective reservoir development in Ma Wu32, Ma Wu33, and Ma Wu41b in the study area, and Ma Wu41a is the main effective reservoir development segment, followed by Ma Wu2 subsegment. For gas bearing prediction, there are a total of 10 favorable zones in Ma Wu segment, among which the predicted gas thickness is between 2 and 8 m. The results have good guiding significance for oil and gas exploration in China. Keywords Carbonate rock . Reservoir evaluation . Gas-bearing . Petrophysical property . AVO forward modeling analysis
Introduction The oil and gas reserves of carbonate rocks are very large in the earth. According to relevant statistics, among the oil and gas fields discovered in the world, carbonate type oil fields account for 50% of the total oil and gas fields (Lai et al., 2019). The reserves of carbonate rock are not only the largest in the world’s oil and gas fields, but also widely distributed in China, mostly in China’s basins, such as Ordos Basin and Tarim Basin. Among them, the Ordos Basin is the second largest basin in China, with abundant underground Cambrian and Ordovician strata, which are two sets of

Marine carbonate strata produced in the Paleozoic period. Therefore, the Ordos Basin has a good exploration prospect (Mohebian et al., 2018). Due to the influence of geomorphologic, sedimentary, and diagenetic factors, the carbonate reservoir in Ordos has many characteristics, such as low permeability, low porosity, and strong heterogeneous quality. Because of such characteristics, carbonate rock structure is complex, effective reservoir size is small, and drilling control degree is lo
