Toxic dermatitis: 3 case reports Three men developed toxic dermatitis during treatment with IV docetaxel [Taxotere]. A 58-year-old man received docetaxel 150mg every 3 weeks for non-small cell lung cancer. Three days after the fourth dose of docetaxel, he developed a severe urticarial rash over his right arm. He was hospitalised due to suspected erysipelas and received antibacterials. Toxic dermatitis was subsequently diagnosed and antibacterials were withdrawn. He received diclofenac and silver sulfadiazine. He was discharged 4 days after admission, and his skin lesions resolved after more than 2 months. He decided against further chemotherapy. A 61-year-old man* received docetaxel for metastatic hormone therapy resistant prostate cancer [dosage not stated]. He developed a painful, red right arm 5 days after the fourth dose of docetaxel. He was diagnosed with toxic dermatitis and received triamcinolone/fusidic acid cream and silver sulfadiazine. Docetaxel was continued. After more than 3 months, his lesions had recovered. A 61-year-old man* received docetaxel for metastatic hormone therapy resistant prostate cancer [dosage not stated]. His right arm became red with a warm burning sensation 3 days after the fifth dose of docetaxel. Blisters developed 2 days later and he was diagnosed with toxic dermatitis. He received silver sulfadiazine and completely recovered in 6 weeks. Author comment: "We applied the Navarro scale for causality and found 1 probable (Case 1) and 2 possible (Case 2 and 3) adverse drug reactions." * patients received docetaxel plus aflibercept or placebo as part of a trial.
