Foreword
This book is written at the occasion of the sixty-fifth birthday of Professor Okko Bosgra on June 13th, 2009, and commemorates the role that Okko Bosgra has played in developing and promoting the field of systems and control theory and engineering during a lifetime effort of more than forty years at Delft University of Technology. At the occasion of this birthday, the Delft Center for Systems and Control (DCSC) at Delft University of Technology has taken the initiative to organize a one-day symposium “Four decades of systems and control - in honor of professor Okko Bosgra” that took place on September 18, 2009 in the Aula of Delft University of Technology. During this symposium several of Okko’s colleagues and former students have contributed by giving a seminar. This book collects research contributions of many coworkers and former students of Okko, who have been inspired and supported by him in looking for the challenging research questions beyond the current state of the art.
Acknowledgements Many colleagues, friends and former students contributed to this book and the symposium. We thank them all, especially Ellen van den Berg-Moor and her team for her invaluable work in the organization of the symposium and the preparation of this book1.
