Intracerebral haemorrhage: case report A 62-year-old man developed intracerebral haemorrhage after receiving sildenafil [therapeutic indication not clearly stated]. The man, whose medical history included mild hypertension, received a single dose of sildenafil 50mg, which was prescribed by a urologist. One hour after receiving the drug, he developed numbness and weakness in his left leg and arm. His symptoms developed prior to attempts at sexual intercourse. He was admitted 2 hours after receiving sildenafil. On admission, he had a BP on 150/90mm Hg. Neurological examination revealed left hemiplegia, hemihypoesthesia and hemihypoalgesia. On cranial CT and MRI, he had haemorrhage in the posterior limb of the internal capsule, and the right thalamus. He was admitted to a stroke unit. The man received antihypertensives. During hospitalisation, his systolic and diastolic BP were between 120–150mm Hg, and 80–90mm Hg, respectively. In 1 week, his neurological status improved. At discharge, he had mild clumsiness of his left hand [patient outcome not clearly stated]. Author comment: "Sildenafil may be the cause of the intracranial bleeding in our patient although a chance association cannot be ruled out." Alpsan MH, et al.
