Dependence and withdrawal symptoms: case report A 23-year-old man, with no history of substance abuse, started receiving 4-8 tablets of tramadol 50mg daily for pain following knee surgery, but subsequently developed dependence on the agent and was taking 30-40 tablets a day [duration of treatment to reaction onset not clearly stated]. Upon withdrawal, he would experience anxiety, intense cravings, cramps and palpations. He underwent medical detoxification as an inpatient and started rehab as an outpatient, but relapsed.
