Osteonecrosis of the jaw in an elderly patient, treated with teriparatide: case report An 88-year-old woman presented with a 12-month history of suppuration, pain, and an unhealed mandibular socket following tooth extraction. Imaging showed left mandible necrosis consistent with a diagnosis of osteonecrosis of the jaw. She had started receiving alendronic acid 70mg/week following a hip fracture that occurred 10 years earlier [route not stated; duration of treatment to reaction onset not clearly stated]. She consented to off-label treatment with SC teriparatide 20 µg/day; her symptoms resolved after 8 weeks, with healing of her osteonecrosis. Cheung A, et al.
