Atypical femur fracture: case report A 78-year-old woman suffered from atypical femur fracture during long-term treatment with alendronic acid for severe postmenopausal osteoporosis. The woman, who had a 3.5-year history of severe postmenopausal osteoporosis, was receiving oral alendronic acid [alendronate; dosage not stated]. Suddenly, she developed pain in her right thigh while walking. Three months later, she fell from her standing height and got a fracture in the middle third of the right femur. Instrumental diagnostics were significant for atypical femur fracture. Intramedullary osteosynthesis blocking with shaft was performed. Before the fracture, MRI of the right thigh soft tissues revealed the presence of an undiagnosed incomplete fracture of the middle third of the right thigh, which subsequently had realised in a complete fracture [duration of treatment to reaction onset and outcome not stated].
