Aripiprazole Weight loss: case report A 24-year-old man experienced weight loss during treatment with aripiprazole for schizophrenia. The man received IM aripiprazole for 2 days after 2 years without medication. He continued with oral aripiprazole. His body mass index (BMI) at baseline was 23.8. He needed a high dose (30 mg/day) of the drug for 3 months in order to fully control his psychiatric symptoms. Nine months from baseline, and during aripiprazole 15 mg/day monotherapy, he lost 18kg in weight. His BMI was 18.31. The man continued aripiprazole 15 mg/day and stabilised his weight for 6 months with a BMI of 18.6. At last followup, he was taking aripiprazole as maintenance therapy.
