Cisplatin Overlap between progressive supranuclear palsy and frontotemporal degeneration: case report
An approximately 62-year-old woman exhibited an overlap between progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) and frontotemporal degeneration (FTD) following treatment cisplatin with for ovarian malignancy [route, dose and outcomes not stated]. The woman, who had a history of ovarian malignancy, underwent for adnexectomy, and received 6 cycles of cisplatin (25 years ago). At the age of 65-years, she presented with behavioral abnormalities. In the previous 3 years (since an approximate age of 62-years), she initially had repetitive falls, then scanning speech and dysphagia. Neurological examination showed slow and hypometric pursue movements, limitation of the upright vertical eye movements, mild axial rigidity, the absence of optokinetic nystagmus, wide base gait, and postural instability with a tendency to fall at the pull test. She also had impulsivity, disinhibition, hand automatisms and perseveration. Cerebral MRI showed an important mesencephalic, cerebellar, frontal, and temporal lobe atrophy. Her clinical and neuroimaging findings indicated a probable PSP. The phenotype was consistent with Richardson’s syndrome with frontal and cerebellar signs. However, behavioural changes and the frontotemporal atrophy overlapped with FTD. Ioan PA, et al.
