Abstract The strain Marseille-P2133 is the type strain of a new bacterial species of the order Clostridiales that was isolated from a stool sample from a healthy volunteer. It is a strictly anaerobic Gram-negative coccobacillus. MALDI-TOF MS did not provide any identification. Strain Marseille-P2133T exhibits 97.4% similarity levels with the Fenollaria massiliensis strain 9401234T (NR_133038), a phylogenetically related species with standing in nomenclature. On the basis of these data, we propose the creation of Fenollaria timonensis sp. nov.

Introduction Currently, there is a need to further study the wide diversity of bacteria to better understand their likely implication in normal physiological functions and diseases in humans [1]. To this end, our laboratory has developed a new strategy which consists in using several different culture conditions allowing the identification of thousands of bacteria. Using culturomics, a strategy based on the search for bacteria from various culture media and conditions, colonies of several microorganisms are then identified using of matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) [2–4]. Fenollaria is a new genus which the type species is Fenollaria massiliensis, described Nucleotide sequence accession number: The 16S rRNA gene and genome sequences were deposited in Genbank under accession numbers LN881613 and CZPW00000000, respectively. by Pagnier et al., in 2014 [5]. All these bacterial strains have been isolated from clinical samples in France [5–7]. In addition, a new taxonomic concept called taxonogenomics, which includes the analysis of complete genomic sequences in combination with phenotypic characteristics, has been adopted [8]. In short, this strategy aims to describe a new bacterial species by providing the main morphological, phenotypic and biochemical properties and a detailed comparison of the genome [9–12]. Herein, we report here the description of Fenollaria timonensis sp. nov., isolated from fresh human stool.
