Porsche | Turbo S – New Top-of-the-range Panamera
Porsche has overhauled its Panamera premium sedan and presented the new top-of-the-range model. The Panamera Turbo S has a modified bi-turbo 4.0-l V8 gasoline engine that produces 463 kW (6000 rpm) and maximum torque f 820 Nm (2300 to 4500 rpm). Another new model is the plug-in hybrid 4S E-Hybrid, which has a 17.9-kWh battery and an electric range of up to 54 km. It also has a dual turbocharged 2.9-l V6 gasoline engine with a maximum
power output of 331 kW (5650 to 6600 rpm) and 550 Nm of torque. This is supported by an electric motor integrated into the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission that produces 100 kW and 400 Nm of torque. The system pow er output is 412 kW and the system torque 750 Nm. The other models in the range are the basic Panamera with a 244 kW bi-turbo V6 and the Panamera GTS with a bi-turbo V8 and maximum power of 353 kW.

FEV | Test Process for High-voltage Batteries
36
FEV has developed a combined simulation and testing process to improve the thermal propagation of high-voltage batteries. It reduces the risk of injury and damage caused by the thermal runaway of battery cells. Multiphysics simulation is used to evaluate and optimize the thermal runaway of one cell and the propagation between battery cells and modules. At the same time, a flow simulation model is produced, which makes it possible to assess and improve the design of the venting paths, the size of the venting valves and the routing of critical high-voltage connections within the battery pack. Both models are validated in a step-by-step process using data from physical tests. The models are then combined. This allows experimental data to be collected early in the development process without the need to build a fully functional battery pack, which saves both time and money.

Audi | Fourth Generation of the S3 In October, Audi is introducing the fourth generation of its S3 hatchback and notchback sedans. The overhauled 2.0-l fourcylinder gasoline engine (bore and stroke: 82.5 × 92.8 mm, compression ratio: 9.3 : 1) has a maximum power output of 228 kW (5450 to 6500 rpm) and 400 Nm of torque (2000 to 5450 rpm). Like its predecessor, the new S3 comes with permanent all-wheel drive, including a hydraulic multi-plate clutch before the rear axle and a sevenspeed automatic transmission (S tronic).

BASF | Plastic for Parts in Contact with Oil BASF has launched a new engineering plastic, a polyethersulfone called Ultrason E0510 C2TRc. According to the company, the material has very good tribological properties, di mensional stability even with broad ranges of temperature fluctuations, and high oil resistance. The injection molding grade is reinforced with 10 % carbon fiber and can be used within a wide temperature range of between -30 and +180 °C. The coefficient of thermal expansion is only 10.4 [10-6/K]. Parts with wall thicknesses of less than 1 mm can be injection molded. Th
