Renal failure in an elderly patient: case report An 81-year-old woman, who had a history of breast cancer, type 2 diabetes mellitus, stage III kidney disease and hypertension, underwent a CT scan using contrast media [dose not stated] to investigate for metastatic breast cancer. Over the following 2 days, she developed increasing nausea and anorexia. Her plasma creatinine level rose to 392 µmol/L (224 before CT scan). She received supportive treatment for acute renal failure. However, her BP began to decrease, she became anuric, and her creatinine level rose to 664 µmol/L. She was transferred to the ICU and began receiving haemofiltration. Over the next few days, her renal function began to recover, and her condition started to improve [patient outcome not stated].
