Mitomycin Periocular allergic contact dermatitis: case report A 63-year-old woman underwent excision of a left conjunctival squamous cell carcinoma with cauterisation of the base. Mitomycin 0.2 mg/mL was administered to the local area with a sponge for approximately 2 minutes. Topical 0.02% mitomycin eye drops four times per day [dosage not clearly stated] were then prescribed to reduce the risk of recurrence. Forty-eight hours later, she presented with a severe dermatitis involving her left eyelids. Patch testing with mitomycin 0.01% under a Finn chamber on the skin showed, 48 hours later, that she was allergic to the mitomycin preparation (type IV hypersensitivity). The topical mitomycin was discontinued and she received treatment with a topical corticosteroid. Her periocular allergic contact dermatitis subsequently resolved. Cumurcu T, et al.
