Preface MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a small non-coding, single-stranded RNA molecule consisting of 20–24 nucleotides. It is found in animals and plants as well as some viruses and is involved in the regulation of gene expression. The primary function of miRNA is, at the post-transcriptional level, downregulating gene expression by regulating translational repression, mRNA cleavage, and deadenylation. Since the discovery of miRNAs in 1993, this field has garnered major interests among the scientists worldwide.
