Generalised maculopapular exanthema: case report An 80-year-old man developed generalised maculopapular exanthema following treatment with dexamethasone. The man, who had undergone dental implant surgery started receiving treatment with oral dexamethasone [dosage not stated], metronidazole and clindamycin. He developed generalised maculopapular exanthema 48 hours after starting dexamethasone. He was diagnosed with dexamethasone associated cutaneous adverse drug reaction (CADR). The man’s treatment with dexamethasone was discontinued and the generalised maculopapular exanthema resolved over 7 days. Intradermal testing with dexamethasone was positive and negative for clindamycin and metronidazole. Additional testing with other steroids revealed positive results for dexamethasone [dexamethasone disodium phosphate], tixocortol [tixocortol pivalate], hydrocortisone and methylprednisolone. Author comment: "Here, we report a novel case of a [cutaneous adverse drug reactions] induced by oral dexamethasone". Watts TJ, et al.
