Irritability treated with citalopram in a child: case report A 4-year-old girl, with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, developed irritability during treatment with oral dexamethasone 3 mg/m2 twice daily for 5 days each month [time to reaction onset not stated]. Her irritability was so severe that she was unable to attend kindergarten and was becoming socially isolated from family and peers. Psychological counseling was unable to resolve her irritability, prompting treatment with continuous oral citalopram 2.5mg once daily. Her "mean" and "angry" behaviours significantly improved within 2 weeks and completely resolved after a further 2 weeks. Dexamethasone was continued in the same regimen. Joshi D-D.
