Preface Chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) is a powerful technique used to detect, map, and quantify interactions between a protein of interest and genomic DNA in vivo. In a typical ChIP experiment, cells or tissues are treated with formaldehyde to generate reversible crosslinks between DNA and other molecules located in the chromatin, typically proteins but also RNAs. The crosslinked chromatin is extracted and fragmented, and the resulting material is immunoprecipitated with antibodies against a protein of interest.
