The post-genomic era and the bioinformatic revolution that accompanied it fostered new strides in the fields of metabolomics and lipidomics. These “omics” approaches are often referred to—rightfully so—as the “closest to the phenotype” and perceived by the scientific community as novel, especially in comparison to genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics.
